Getting Married Abroad - Thailand

The traditional Buddhist custom is to have a Monk blessing in the home of the bride in the morning of the wedding and then have the marriage registered.
Paperwork
Below is some legal information about getting married in Thailand;
- There are no residency requirements in order to get married in Thailand.
- A Thai marriage is legally binding in the UK.
- The required paperwork usually takes at least 2 working days to complete before your marriage can be registered.
- The legal registration of your marriage will take place in the local registration office (Amphur). This is what makes the marriage legally binding.
- At the registration office you will need to have a translator present and the registration office will arrange for you to have a witnesses.
- Once you are legally married in Thailand, you will receive your official wedding certificates. The wedding certificates will be in Thai but you will receive an English translation the following working day.
- You are not required to have a wedding ceremony to be legally married in Thailand.
