Venues

Dominican Republic

The 14 main islands of the Bahamas all offer something completely different such as Long Island's deserted beaches, duty free shopping in cosmopolitan Nassau or snorkelling and exploring on San Salvador.

A beautiful shipping port in Barbados would make an idyllic backdrop for your wedding pictures, as would a quiet St Luca beach. Or how about your own private island...surely the ultimate in wedding venues!

You can also choose to get married in a villa or hotel, with hundreds to choose from throughout the Caribbean, or for something a little more traditional a local church. On the larger islands most Christian religions are represented.

Customs

Grenada

Many of the Caribbean islands follow the American wedding customs, however others chose a blend of African and European customs making it truly unique to the Caribbean.

Ultimately wedding customs vary from island to island, but there are some common themes. Usually the bride and groom walk to the church together and the church bells ring in order to announce the wedding to the island. The local villagers line the street and it is compulsory for every onlooker to comment on the bride and grooms clothing.

Paperwork

St Lucia
  • There are no residential requirements. However there are waiting periods on some of the islands, this can range from a few hours to a few days.
  • Both parties and witnesses have to present a valid passport.
  • If either party has previously been divorced you will require a Decree Absolute
  • A Deed Poll is required if either party has changed their name.
  • Death certificate (If either party is a widow/widower)

The legal requirements for getting married in the Caribbean vary between the different locations. E.G- Dominican Republic law states that documents must be translated into Spanish by Dominican Consulate or Embassy in the couple's home country before travelling to the country itself. Some other countries require blood tests.

Please check the specific legal requirements of your chosen location.
