Civil Weddings

A civil wedding is for those who want to get married but who are not religious or where the couple are from different religious backgrounds.

This type of wedding means that the service will not include any religious element, it is purely a legal ceremony. However, you can still personalise the ceremony with your own readings or vows if you wish.

  • Register offices and some venues will have a maximum number of people it can hold, so you will need to make advanced decisions on who you will invite to the ceremony and who to the reception.

The Venues

Or even the London Eye

At a civil wedding there are various choices of where you can tie the knot. It does not have to be a register office. You can choose anywhere to suit you and your partners taste as long as it has a civil licence. This means that you can choose somewhere more elegant and personal than a register office.

Some ideas of where you could hold your wedding are;

  • A historic castle and make it a fairytale day.
  • If you and your partner are football fans you could hold your ceremony at a football stadium.
  • A Country Club or Hotel.

You should check on the website of your local registry office, which will list the venues which are authorised to carry out civil ceremonies and then choose from that list.
